A fourth-generation hair stylist, Hector Rodriguez is the founder of Blowouts Inspire Confidence. For Hector, “It’s more than a blowout; it’s an art form with hair as a medium to breathe and blow life into,” he says.
We caught up with the stylist to learn more.
Tell us about your background as a fourth-generation hair stylist. How did you get started?
I grew up watching my mother, her mother, and her mother inspire confidence in generations of women. A family trade, I saw the salon beyond my future-workplace: it was my art studio, my forever home. After graduating from cosmetology school, I left for New York City aspiring all affairs luxury hair: fashion shows, magazine editorials, celebrity clientele.
What inspired you to start Blowouts Inspire Confidence?
Against the modern salon’s tendency for uniformity and urgency, I conceptualized Blowouts Inspire Confidence to value quality, dynamism, and inimitability. My new brand strives to provide women with the luxury experience to believe and become their best selves. It’s more than a blowout… it’s an art form about understanding what each woman hopes to see in the mirror and feel beyond it. In short, I started Blowouts Inspire Confidence because I believe with the power of a luxury blowout you look your best, you feel your best, you do your best.
Talk a little about the concept of how you believe that luxury hair-styling services should be accessible to all women?
While hoping that my brand speaks to each woman in a unique way, I universally aspire to validate every woman in believing that they deserve for others to go above and beyond for them. Every woman deserves to feel beautiful; life can be stressful, looking your best shouldn’t be.
You worked at Warren Tricomi in NYC for years. Tell us a little about the experience.
In Manhattan, dedication yields results; I commuted six hours a day, seven days a week, and I never worked a late morning or an early night. I refined my blow-drying and hair styling artistry under the world-renowned editorialist Edward Tricomi, blowout and bridal specialist Bella Gunst, and LA-based artist Edgar Saenz. I learned to see blow-styling beyond simple drying: an art form with hair as a medium to breathe and blow life into. Having envisioned celebrity hair trends across Manhattan and the Hamptons for over five years, I now embody the proficiency and the passion necessary to curate your luxury blowout or bridal experience to yours and your hair’s needs.
Who are some of your notable clients?
Balancing NYC glamour with seaside aesthetics, I’ve worked across the Hamptons, Manhattan, and Greenwich with clients like Donna Karan, Marlo Thomas, Hilaria Baldwin, Sara Goldfarb, Claire Kupchak, Barbara Kavovit, Andrea Catsimatidis, and Pamela Rosenzweig-Glassman.
How did your partnership with Moroccanoil come about?
It came about in one of the most unexpected ways possible. After being invited to the Moroccanoil Academy on the Upper East Side, I networked with such amazing educators and was later approached by Moroccanoil to educate salons across the East Coast. Being on-location in the Hamptons means I need not only luxury products but a line capable of handling every hair type and texture behind the chair: I found this in Moroccanoil. Likewise, leading a brand driven by dynamic values, I am attracted to their commitment to female-empowerment and sustainability.
What about the Hamptons inspires you?
The Hamptons are above all else a seaside sanctuary, not just for the soul but for the raw beauty of art and nature. Effusing relaxed sophistication, the Hamptons inspire the cultivated compulsion to create.
What do you like to do when you have downtime?
My fiancé often jokes that I never stop working; when I’m not on-location, I’m coordinating social media posts or consulting with blowout and bridal clients. I am an ardent believer in the precept: if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. However, on the off-chance I have downtime, we’ll take a morning walk on Egypt Beach or have a simple lunch at Tutto Il Giorno in Sag Harbor. And, of course, any downtime must be spent over a good glass of Chardonnay.
