The Chase Contemporary Art Gallery in East Hampton will present “Miss Multitude,” an exhibition of watercolor paintings by Copenhagen-based, internationally renowned artist Ole Aakjær.
Inspired by comic book writers and artists Milo Manara, Enki Bilal, and Jean Giraud, and his former career in advertising and design, Aakjær’s work explores the feminine persona through the combination of watercolor and layered tattoo art, symbols, and letters. Drawing upon films, comics, philosophy, literature, poetry, music, religion, and culture, Aakjær’s pieces center around themes of resilience, femininity, and poignant emotions present in his personal life.
Aakjær’s first solo museum exhibitions were held at Vejle Kunstmuseum in Denmark and the Chinese Contemporary Art Museum in China in 2021. Since 2014, his work has been featured in over 70 solo and group exhibitions with sold-out shows in Montreal, Oslo, Paris, and London.
The exhibition will run from July 30 to August 13. An opening reception will be held on July 30 from 3 to 7 PM.
