Veteran and East End Artist John Melillo continues to find solace with his PTSD through art and healing. “Life Goes On Part 4,” an art and video exhibition, is a continuation of honoring his canine, King, whom he worked with in Vietnam, who not only saved his life but became so close to him.
“Over 50 years later, I think about him every day, and so, in supporting Organizations like Paws of War that rescues and pairs service dogs with Veterans and first responders is a continuation to honor and show the importance of canines and animals and also in honoring the memory of King,” said Melillo.
On view will be a series of Melillo’s new East End paintings that take you on an adventure. A video premiere will also take place where cameras follow as Melillo visits the organizations and learns about their synergies of how they are all finding solace for PTSD and doing something good for others. Many of Melillo’s “East End” Paintings were inspired by his perspective growing up in historic Southampton, Water Mill, and Sagaponack, where his heritage goes back to the 1890s. “Getting to know the East End circa 1950 has served as a great original wellspring for my inspiration and paintings today,” said Melillo.
An opening reception will be held on Thursday, August 15, from 4 to 7 PM. The show closes on Sunday, August 25, with Pal-O-Mine Equestrian Military Programs held from 1 to 4 PM.
