Artists Of Shelter Island Celebrates 16 Years Of Open Studios Tour!

Shelter Island Artist Studios

The creative hub that is Shelter Island—a mere 27-mile stretch of land just 90 miles from Manhattan—remains a somewhat undiscovered haven where tranquility, community and artistic expression flourish. Residents and seasonal visitors alike are deeply devoted to what the Island represents: creativity, connection and a strong sense of place.

Embodying these cornerstones is artSI, now celebrating its 16th year and its annual Open Studio Tour this August. The beloved event offers visitors a rare opportunity to step inside the working studios of Shelter Island artists, experiencing their creative processes and latest works in an intimate and personal setting.

Many artSI members exhibit in galleries and institutions throughout New York City and beyond. This year, twenty artists will present new works across a wide range of disciplines and mediums during the perennial August tour.

Participating artists include: Connie Abate, Sally Jacobs Baker, Linda Brienza, Kathryn A. Cunningham, Laurie Dolphin, Katherine Hammond, Megan Hergrueter, Lily Hoffman, Diana Malcolmson, Mary Ann Moy, Carl Norr, Jacky Pullman, James Sebor, Chris Sorenson, Peter Waldner and Allison Woodward.

This year’s event is dedicated in loving memory to longtime ARTSI member and friend Fred Buonocore, a gifted artist, master craftsman and cherished presence within the Shelter Island arts community.

About artSI

Founded in 2010 by artists Jackie Black, Janet Culbertson, Roz Dimon, Bob Markell and Mike Zisser, ARTSI emerged as a creative alternative to the traditional gallery model. With a vision of bringing art directly into the spaces where it is conceived and created, the organization sought to foster meaningful engagement between artists and the public. What began as a novel concept quickly resonated with audiences and has grown into one of Shelter Island’s most anticipated cultural traditions.
