ArtSI Celebrates 15th Year Of Open Studios!

Shelter Island Artist Studios

The creative hub that is Shelter Island, a mere 27 mile stretch of land just 90 miles from Manhattan, is a relatively underexposed haven possessing a tranquility and desirable space for all things artistic. Natives and residents of SI are notably devoted to what their Island represents: creativity, community and connection. Representing exactly these cornerstones is the ARTSI membership group now in its 15th year and celebrating its perennial open studio tour in August, providing a chance for all to visit the artist’s studios in a most personal way.

Many of the ARTSI multi-disciplined artist members showcase their work at fine art galleries in Manhattan and throughout other major cities. This year, twenty artists will be presenting all new pieces, in varying mediums, on the perennial August studio tour.

Participating artists:  Sally Jacobs Baker, Tia Bowman, Linda Brienza, Fred Buonocore, Catherine Corry, Kathryn A. Cunningham, Dee Debernardis, Roz Dimon, Laurie Dolphin, Melora Griffis, Megan Hergrueter, Lily Hoffman, Diana Malcolmson, Mary Ann Moy, Carl Norr, Jacky Pullman, Jana Sheinker, Susan Schrott, June Shatken, Peter Waldner & Allison Woodward.

About ARTSI:

Founded in 2010 by artists Jackie Black, Janet Culbertson, Roz Dimon, Bob Markell and Mike Zisser ARTSI began as a break-away group from the much larger and well-established Artists Alliance of East Hampton (AAEH). With the intent being to provide a refreshing alternative to the white wall gallery system and to engage attendees and viewers in a unique way.  A novel concept at that time, it was an immediate hit with art goers with open studios drawing a larger crowd with each annual installment.

About ARTSI by founding member Roz Dimon:

“There was a real spark with the advent of ARTSI in 2010 that put Shelter Island back on the creative map; beyond the obvious textbook legends (John Chamberlain, Alan Shields, Ernst Neizvestny) ARTSI erupted with an exciting, happening now, backyard grassroots energy — and it’s done nothing but grow into its own legend ever since."
