Courage For The Earth, Peter Matthiessen In Sagaponack
In The Wind Birds Peter Matthiessen wrote of his home in Sagaponack, “From the west window of my house, a fringe of trees parting the fields winds into view; here Sagg Pond, like a wide meadow river, curls down through miles of warm potato country to the sea.” Peter lived here for over 50 years and wrote most of his books in his small writer’s studio off of Bridge Lane. Peter’s daughter, Rue Matthiessen and Scott Chaskey, who knew him as a Zen teacher and friend, will read passages from his work and reflect on the life of our celebrated local author, explorer, naturalist, and Zen teacher. Scott Chaskey is author of Seed Time and This Common Ground. Rue Matthiessen is author of the memoir Castels and Ruins: Unraveling Family Mystery and Literary Legacy in the Irish Countryside; and most recently, the novel Woman With Eyes Closed. Presented in partnership with Canio’s.
