East Meets West Jazz Jam Session Feat. Ludmilla Brazil
FREE Community Jazz Jam Returns December 7th: East End Jazz and SCC present Ludmilla Brazil Trio at the Southampton Cultural Center
East End Jazz, in collaboration with the Southampton Cultural Center (SCC), is excited to announce the return of its popular, free, monthly community event, the “East Meets West Jazz Jam Session.”
The next East Meets West Jazz Jam Session is set for Sunday, December 7th, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Southampton Cultural Center, located at 25 Pond Lane, Southampton, NY. This welcoming space extends an open invitation to musicians, music lovers, friends and family alike to step away from the daily grind, forget the world for a few hours, and embrace the power of jazz to be truly in the moment.
The December 7th session will kick off with a special 35-minute performance by the Ludmilla Brazil Trio. Ludmilla Brazil, accompanied by Marcello Pimenta on guitar and John Ludlow on Saxophone and guests, has received tremendous reception performing in the New York area. Known for their exciting, high-energy performances, the trio carefully selects a repertoire that finds new meaning in the music of great composers.
Following the featured performance, the stage will open up for the jazz jam session. Iris Ornig, bassist, composer, and Director of East End Jazz, realized there was an urge for the community to come together, “enjoying jazz, relaxing, dancing and being yourself in the moment.”
“We had all generations participating in the jazz jam session—from 14 years old to almost 80 years old! The audience was dancing to some swing tunes, and all in all, everybody had a good time!” Ornig said. She emphasized the importance of fostering young talent, adding, “East End Jazz is encouraging the youth to step out and join the pros! We are dedicated to feature and highlight the youth, giving them a platform to grow through music, being on stage, being a bandleader, and giving something to the community.”
The “East Meets West Jazz Jam Session” is free with no admission charge and is open to the entire community. Musicians of all skill levels, vocalists, music lovers, jazz enthusiasts, families, and friends are encouraged to attend. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet the local jazz community, listen to great music, and get inspired to create and improvise. The collaboration with the Southampton Cultural Center is confirmed to continue into the New Year until May.
