Encore Screening: One Big Home
On Friday, January 10 at 6:00 p.m., Build.In.Kind/East Hampton and Wainscott Heritage Project will co-host a special encore
screening of the film One Big Home for the community, followed by discussion and Q&A with special guests, the filmmaker Thomas Bena and East Hampton Town Deputy Supervisor Cate Rogers. The event will take place at LTV Studios at 75 Industrial Road in Wainscott.
One Big Home spans more than a decade and documents the story of how one person, a carpenter who worked on the construction of ever bigger houses in the town of Chilmark on Martha’s Vineyard, grew concerned about the impact of that building and decided to take action. Trading in his toolbelt for a video camera, he engaged the community through listening and debate, built a consensus, and created a coalition of individuals committed to realizing more thoughtful house size and land use practices that respected and protected their town’s history, character, quality of life, affordability, and environment, while sustaining a vibrant economy.
Though a deeply local and personal story, this movie resonates broadly here in East Hampton as the town grapples with the impact of intensifying and expanding development on the local community and the land.
Admission is free and advance registration is encouraged.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the film will start promptly at 6:00 p.m.
