OF THIS WORLD: A New Artist Collaboration Opens at Ashawagh Hall in East Hampton

Three-day exhibition features five artists and runs October 23–25

EAST HAMPTON, NY – OF THIS WORLD, a group exhibition and artist collaboration, showcases five local artists at Ashawagh Hall in East Hampton, NY from October 23 through 25.

The exhibition features painters Zoë Denahy, Dena Harris, and Susan Malfa, photographer Todd Liebler, and ceramicist Sabry Mohideen, each offering a distinct point of view on the world around us.

OF THIS WORLD opens on Friday, October 23, from 5:00-7:30pm at Ashawagh Hall in East Hampton, and continues Saturday, October 24 from 10 AM-6pm and Sunday, October 25 from 11am-4pm. Refreshments will be served and admission is free.

Zoë Denahy is an artist painting out on the east end of Long Island. She is also a member of Upstream Gallery in Hastings on Hudson, NY. A graduate of Pratt/Parsons with a BFA. Zoë’s paintings are visual explorations of sky meets water, water meets land. The horizon creates architectural geometry in which the picture plane sits abstracting color and light. Forms are simplified yet illuminate. Zoë’s attraction to water and open space is immeasurable and valid.

Dena Harris has enjoyed a long career as a gynecologist in New York City while pursuing her lifelong passion for art. Her medical career fostered the precision, discipline, and attentiveness that inform her work. Drawn to the weathered houses of the Hamptons, Harris explores the moment when nature begins to overtake what we have built. Through her painting style, she transforms peeling paint, worn surfaces, light, and architectural details into studies of color, texture, geometry, and time. Harris has studied at the New York Academy, Art Students League, Art Barge, and Long Island Academy of the Arts. Her work has been exhibited at Guild Hall, Ashawagh Hall, Golden Eagle, and Depot Gallery in the Hamptons, and Artifacts Gallery in New York City.

Todd Liebler’s passion lies in connecting with people, places, and objects in our world, both the dramatic and mundane. Whether these connections are fleeting or deep, Todd seeks definitive moments that celebrate traditions, joy, and sorrows on this planet we call home. He has traveled the globe for over 40 years and been nominated for 8 Emmy Awards, winning 3 for Outstanding Cinematography for a Nonfiction Program, All with Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown. Currently, Todd exclusively shoots still photography on film and digital formats. He hopes viewers enjoy these images and find them evocative.

Susan Malfa, an Amagansett based painter-gardener, credits creating and gardening as a meditative elixir and a counter to a career in the media industry. Susan’s felt experiences of the natural world are channeled into her artwork that honors the beauty and awe of a garden, a place or a plant she has deeply examined. Her work is an offering, a moment to consider the vital role of plants in our intertwined ecosystem and a shout out to Mother Nature.

Sabry Mohideen is a retired CFO living in New York City. After a career driven by numbers and deadlines, he discovered in clay a welcome sense of quiet, focus, and freedom. His work is primarily sculptural, exploring the intimate process of shaping clay and making choices about surface and glaze; however, once a piece enters the kiln, he must let go and allow the fire to have its say.  Clay forces him to slow down, stay present, and embrace the unexpected. What begins with an intention to control often becomes something more beautiful than he imagined.
