The Jazz Bus is Coming to The Hamptons: “Tiny Toes & The Jazz Crew” Bridges the Gap Between Playtime and the American Art Form
What happens when “The Wheels on the Bus” hops on board with the legendary sounds of Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis?
East End Jazz is proud to announce the launch of “Tiny Toes & The Jazz Crew” a groundbreaking, interactive concert series designed to bridge the gap between early childhood playtime and the professional performing arts. This multi-generational experience invites families and visitors to step into a world where nursery rhymes blend seamlessly with jazz standards, creating a sound that feels entirely natural and proving that great music knows no age limit.
“Tiny Toes & The Jazz Crew” was born from a simple but powerful idea: that children’s music deserves the same improvisational depth and rhythmic complexity as a night at the Blue Note. Led by Iris Ornig Director of East End Jazz, the program integrates foundational jazz traditions with childhood favorites, creating a “musical playground” for everyone from toddlers to grandparents.
“We wanted to create a space where the next generation doesn’t just listen to music, but feels it,” says Ornig. “By pairing familiar melodies with sophisticated jazz arrangements, we’re inviting families to participate in the rhythm, movement and spontaneous joy that defines this art form. It’s about building a community of listeners from the very first note.”
This isn’t your average performance. The series is specifically designed to transform playtime into a high-level artistic exchange and allows children to experience jazz through the lens of play. Parents and grandparents can finally enjoy a world-class musical performance alongside their little ones, rather than just for them.
The “Jazz Crew”– Natalia Rahim on vocals, Jane Hastay on piano, John Ludlow on sax, Iris Ornig on bass and Brian Woodruff on drumsfive – serves as both performers and mentors, guiding the audience through a journey of syncopation, scat-singing and instrumental discovery.
