Blue Flag Capital, the hospitality group behind a collection of hotels on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, will open Hotel Corduroy in Montauk in the former location of The Sunset Montauk on West Lake Drive.
Hotel Corduroy will be the first of three properties from Blue Flag Capital to open this year and has begun taking reservations for stays starting in May. The group’s portfolio also includes the openings of Faraway Sag Harbor at the former Baron’s Cove, set to open this summer, and Oyster Estate in Greenport at the location of the Greenporter, scheduled to open in September.

Originally built in 1983 and reimagined for a modern traveler, Hotel Corduroy aims to serve as an intimate, high-design retreat, transformed by New York-based interior design firm Ward + Gray. The space will “reflect the area’s surfing heritage and laid-back creative spirit,” according to a statement, with 29 rooms and a small lobby retail shop. The Lawn, an expansive outdoor gathering space, serves as a communal gathering spot, taking advantage of the nearby waterfront and restaurants.
At the helm, Eric Freitas-Orford joins as Managing Director for New York. Most recently the General Manager of The Twenty Two New York, he brings his expertise to each of the East End hotels.

“We’re excited to introduce locals and travelers to three distinct hospitality experiences on the East End this season,” said Eric. “Our goal is for these properties to truly become part of the communities in which they have always belonged, honoring what’s come before while evolving into something new. We look forward to bringing our high-touch hospitality to the East End and becoming a foundation for our guests to create loved memories.”
