Keyes Art in Sag Harbor presents “Through the Red Door: The Artists of Cold Castle,” curated by Thomas Beale. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, April 11, from 5 to 7 PM. The exhibit will run through May 10.
“Through the Red Door: The Artists of Cold Castle,” brings together the work of 28 artists who together formed one of Chelsea’s last true artist communities, which took shape from 2006 to 2012 in a 40,000 sq. ft building at the corner of 21st Street and the West Side Highway in New York City.
With uncommonly large studios, a vibrant communal kitchen, and no heat for the first four years, the space felt both like an echo of a New York from an earlier generation and a welcoming home that drew in members of the larger art community for dinners, exhibitions, and the life of the arts that runs alongside creation.
Keyes Art was a member of this community, with a project space on the fourth floor of the building, and is proud to bring together this reunion to share with Sag Harbor and the larger East End community.
Artists include Matilde Alessandra, Nils Folke Anderson, Savanna Barrett, Thomas Beale, Lina Bertucci, Katherine Blackburn, Mike Drury, Philip Estlund, Graham Gillmore, Melinda Hackett, Midori Harima, Mercedes Head, Benjamin Heller, James Kennedy, Maynard Monrow, Roz Stone Morris, Annysa Ng, Daphane Park, Nathan Perkel, Randy Polumbo, Anastasio Poneros, Carol Schaefer, Amy Storey, Swoon, Arturo Toulinov, Vadis Turner, Lena Viddo, and John Wells.
