Keyes Art Presents “AFROFUTURISM,” a show that reimagines the future by honoring now, a multi-site exhibit curated by Julie Keyes and Eden Williams.
The first exhibition will open on Saturday, January 29, from 4:30 to 6 PM, at the newly-founded Natali/Keyes Gallery in Greenport. Featured artists include Claude Lawrence, Erika Renee, Faith Ringgold, and Clintel Steed. The show will run through March 31.
The second exhibit will open on Saturday, February 5, from 4:30 to 6 PM at The Church in Sag Harbor. The show features Dr. Leslee Stradford’s “PADRÃOS,” collages inspired by Herman L. Bennett’s “African Kings and Black Slaves: Sovereignty and Dispossession in the Early Modern Atlantic.”
On Saturday, February 12, there will be a round table conversation with Dr. Leslee Stradford and Herman L. Bennett from 4:30 to 5:30 PM and will be followed by a reception at 5:30 PM.
Bennett is an international scholar on African culture and has lectured extensively on this topic. Dr. Stradford is an accomplished artist who works with historical photographs as digital collage on silk and paints on linen and canvas. She has made four new works that tell this story and reimagines its concept.
The third exhibit will open on Saturday, February 19, at Keyes Gallery at AB NY in East Hampton featuring the art of Cullen Washington Jr., an African-American contemporary abstract painter who lives and works in New York. The opening reception will be held 4 to 5:30 PM and the show will run through March 31.
The fourth exhibit will be open on Saturday, February 26, at Keyes Art at The American Hotel. The show will feature artists Thornton Dial, Ericka Ranee, and Leslee Stadford. The opening reception takes place from 4:30 to 6 PM and the show will run through March 31.
