Michael Derrig, owner and founder of one of the leading local landscape and construction firm, Landscape Details located in East Hampton, has announced the official opening of Building Details. He built his first home in East Hampton over 20 years ago. Over the past two decades, clients of his successful landscape architecture and construction firm have convinced him to build their homes.
“It started out slowly,” he said. “I mean I’ve been into architecture and design since before I went to Rutgers,” where he became a landscape architect. “But I was building a landscaping business and raising my kids with my wife, so I’d only build one or two houses a year.”
As the pandemic and demand for high-quality construction increased, and as his aesthetic was more in demand, Derrig found an ideal “right hand man” in Mark T. Sichling.
With a background in millwork and fine home construction, Sichling and Derrig began working together in 2020. The sophisticated use of technology and decade’s long experience on the East End made the path forward clear: it made sense to incorporate and “make it official.”
The firm is currently working on a number of exciting projects. Building Details prides itself on working very closely with clients to realize their vision. Derrig notes that local architects and designers have been referring clients, which is gratifying.
“There’s nothing cookie cutter, here,” he said. “We’re not a factory, we’re more custom-tailored. We strive to get every detail just right.”
