The Parrish Art Museum presents PechaKucha Night Hamptons, Vol. 32, where speakers give rapid-fire presentations about living creatively on the East End. The event, which will be presented in-person and live-streamed, will take place on Friday, March 19, at 6 PM.
The speakers — who will show 20 images for 20 seconds in compelling six-minute and 40-second long presentations — include architect Nishan Kazazian, photographers Hugh Patrick Brown and Jaime Lopez, and artists Lauren Ruiz and Mark Van Wagner.
“I’m thrilled that the Parrish Art Museum continues to provide this great public platform for creative people on the East End to share their passions,” said Jennifer Duque, the head of museum experiences.
Brown spent a major part of his career at Time-Life, shooting primarily for Time and People magazines, and occasionally for Fortune and Sports Illustrated. Brown’s assignments took him to Viet Nam, Northern Ireland, and the White House under the Nixon administration.
As an artist, licensed architect, and educator, Kazazian’s work encompasses a wide range of media and methods, challenges and transcends distinctions between art and architecture. His visual language blends and transforms the boundaries between expressiveness and functionality while integrating social, environmental, technological, and political issues.
Lopez was born in Peru, where the breathtaking landscapes became an aesthetic foundation for his lifelong career as a photographer and artist. In 1980, Lopez moved to New York to study graphic design at Parsons School of Design and relocated to Sagaponack in 2000. His most recent project — the book “Hamptons Artists, The Current Wave: 48 Artists Making Their Mark on the East End” — features local artists and their studios.
Ruiz is a research-based artist interrogating ecological contamination, institutional authority, and ethics through multimedia installations, interactive performance, and new media projects. Her work has been featured at The Art Institute Vienna, The Latvian National Museum of Art, and the 108th Annual College Art Association Conference 2021.
Painter and sculptor Van Wagner was born in New York, graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago, and lived throughout the U.S. before settling on Long Island in Bellport, where he is the owner of the gallery Marquee Projects. One his most recent sculptures was included in the 2020 Long Island Biennial at the Heckscher Museum in Huntington.
Registration is required at parrishart.org. The cost of seating in the limited audience is $15 or $5 for members. The live-stream is free, and donations are welcome.
