Ram’s Head Inn On Shelter Island Opens Under New Ownership

The Ram’s Head Inn reopens its doors this season under the new ownership of Aandrea Carter, a longtime East End resident. The historic Inn, built in 1919, retains all of its legendary charm as it ushers in a new era.

Carter is restoring the beloved waterside restaurant and Inn into a year round destination. The farm/sea-to-table restaurant, which seats up to 100 people, spreads across an airy, newly whitewashed dining room, a chic bar, a sun-drenched garden room, as well as a covered veranda and outdoor patio.

“I have always loved the Ram’s Head Inn,” said Carter. “It’s one of those places where no matter who you are, you feel part of an exclusive, old world club. I want to build on that goodwill and create a modern and welcoming experience from the moment you step foot on our property.”

The art-filled rooms flow into one another, making it the perfect destination for intimate family and friends gatherings, retreats, and special events, from private parties to weddings. The Inn features 17 guestrooms, as well as beauty and spa services, a wellness program, which includes seaside yoga and delicious herbal concoctions. The expansive lawn, dotted with old world white Adirondack chairs, invites you to come and sit a while, whether for morning coffee, afternoon smoothies, or sunset cocktails.

This season will also see the debut of the Ram’s Head Oyster, developed in an exclusive partnership with the Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program, which will be developing oyster and other shellfish beds in the Ram’s Head Inn’s waterfront. A percentage of proceeds from the Inn’s oyster sales will be given back to the bays in support of Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program’s shellfish and habitat restoration efforts.

Executive Chef Joe Smith remains at the helm of the Inn’s award-winning culinary program. Guests can expect the return of his farm/sea-to-table cooking, as well as some new surprises.

A weekly raw bar will be featured all summer long, beginning Memorial Day Weekend.  Several local oyster farmers will be onsite shucking their own delicacies for guests to sample.

All Ram’s Head Inn offerings will be available to guests via their all-inclusive Grass Pass, which gives day visitors access to a plethora of amenities including beachfront food and beverage services and activities, luxury picnic options, outdoor fitness classes, and spa offerings.

The full grounds of the property are available for private events, accommodating up to 250 people. The 4.5 acres also offers several locations for more intimate events, including a private beachfront, waterfront tented event space, exclusive gazebo, organic herb garden, and cigar lounge. Weekly outdoor yoga and fitness classes will be offered and open to the public.
