The Second Annual Hoops 4 Hope East End Basketball Tournament & Benefit At Sagaponack Farm Distillery

After the success of last year’s tournament, Hoops 4 Hope will host the second annual H4H East End 3’s 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday, August 12, at the East Hampton High School.

The event will begin at 8 AM and each team must have a minimum of three players and a maximum of five. There will be a men’s and women’s division as well as a bracket for kids (ages 13-17) and adults (18+). A grand prize will be awarded to the winning team in each bracket. Players and attendees will also have a chance to win additional prizes during the free throw contest, three point contest and half court shootout.

The tournament will be hosted by Hoops 4 Hope, a non-profit founded in 1995 that works in underserved communities in Cape Town, South Africa, Harare, Zimbabwe and with local schools and programs to enhance community engagement. It will be played on the court that is dedicated to NYS HOF Basketball Coach Ed Petrie. The fee per team is $400. Food and drinks will be provided to the players and available for purchase to attendees. The cost to attend as a spectator is free, although donations are welcome. All proceeds will benefit Hoops 4 Hope. Teams can register by visiting hoopsafrica.networkforgood.com.

Hoops 4 Hope will also host a benefit the next day, Sunday, August 13, from 5 to 9 PM at Sagaponack Farm Distillery. The night will celebrate African culture, the organization, and all who support it. There will be food from local restaurants, silent and chance auctions and gypsy jazz music from Hot Club of Montauk. Silent auction prizes, including Yankees tickets, signed Jets memorabilia from Sauce Gardiner, Zach Wilson and CJ Mosley, and a polo trip for two in Buenos Aires, will be given out to the highest bidder. Bidding will be open to the public on Hoops 4 Hope’s website starting on July 11 and will close on August 15 at 5 PM. All proceeds will support programs in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Tickets for the benefit start at $300 and can be purchased by visiting hoopsafrica.networkforgood.com.

“Hosting our benefit this year at Sagaponack Farm Distillery is meaningful to me,” said Mark Crandall, the founder of Hoop 4 Hope. “The local focus of the distillery, from growing and producing their own spirits to serving only NYS produced wine, beer and food products, pulls into focus the connectedness of Hoops 4 Hope as well. We are supporting local businesses, who are in turn, supporting us. It’s a real full-circle moment.”
