Guild Hall in East Hampton presents “Adam Tendler: Inheritances” on Sunday, June 28, at 7 PM.
Following his father’s passing, pianist Adam Tendler inherited a sum of cash in a parking lot — an event that sparked an ambitious commissioning initiative. He brought together a diverse group of composers and sound artists, requesting each to interpret the concept of “inheritance.” The outcome was a collection of new piano compositions.
Presented as a single and intimate program, these works delve into themes of lineage, memory, loss, and place. They serve as a meditation on how we address the past while shaping what lies ahead. The program includes commissions by Devonté Hynes, Laurie Anderson, Missy Mazzoli, Nico Muhly, inti figgis-vizueta, and others, showcasing a broad range of voices and perspectives.
Created by Liquid Music, this project received a 2026 Grammy nomination for Best Classical Instrumental Solo and was showcased on “CBS Sunday Morning.”
