The Southampton Arts Center held an opening for “Figures Transformed,” a multimedia exhibition featuring the work of artists Deborah Buck, Hal Buckner, and Strong-Cuevas. The exhibition, curated by Christina Mossaides Strassfield and sponsored by Sylvia Hemingway and Lana Jokel, opened on Saturday, July 30.

The exhibition includes painting and sculpture indoors as well as larger sculptures outside on the West Lawn. The featured work captures each artists’ interpretation of the human form. Buck uses anthropomorphic and imaginary figures to evoke an other-worldly environment, while Buckner uses the female figure to celebrate and alter the art historical canon, and Strong-Cuevas uses the figure’s head to represent the whole and explores the idea of inner consciousness and communication through space and time.
