Bay Street Theater Presents The Joni Project: Celebrating The Music Of Joni Mitchell

Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor presents The Joni Project, a tribute to the music and artistry of Joni Mitchell, on Saturday, October 18, at 8 PM. The performance promises fresh interpretations of Joni’s legendary songs, from her folk beginnings through her groundbreaking jazz collaborations.

The Joni Project formed as a tribute in both sound and spirit to one of music’s greatest and most innovative artists. The band is fronted by Long Island’s remarkable multi-instrumentalist and singer Katie Pearlman, who plays Joni’s songs in their original open guitar tunings. The ensemble also includes jazz and jam band mainstays Dave Berg (guitar), Dan Ehrlich (bass), Alan Lerner (drums), Mark Mancini (keyboards), Steve Finkelstein (percussion), Premik Russell Tubbs (saxophone and flute), and Victoria Faiella (backing vocals).

Collectively, these musicians have performed with members of the Grateful Dead, The Band, The Doors, the Neville Brothers, and many others. Tubbs alone has collaborated with Carlos Santana, Whitney Houston, Sting, James Taylor, Lady Gaga, and Herbie Hancock. Together, the group brings vibrant energy and musical sophistication to Joni Mitchell’s work, particularly her dynamic collaborations with Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny, and Michael Brecker.

The Joni Project celebrates it all, from timeless classics like “Both Sides Now,” “Big Yellow Taxi,” “Chelsea Morning,” and “Help Me,” to “Raised on Robbery” and “Free Man in Paris.”

Tickets are available now at baystreet.org.
