Fighting Chance, the cancer support non-profit in Sag Harbor, will co-host with Sister Ann Marino at Cormaria a Morning of Spirituality on April 15 from 8:30 AM to noon. Led by Sister Ann and Amy Zachary, LCSW and oncology social worker at Fighting Chance, the Saturday morning event at the Cormaria Retreat House, will examine the different definitions of spirituality and how faith in its many forms can help a patient, or caregiver, on the cancer journey find peace and well-being.
“Given Fighting Chance’s mission is to improve the quality of life for Cancer patients and their families, a spirituality event makes sense for our patients, but also members of the community who may not know about Fighting Chance or the services we offer,” said Sister Ann, adding that, “When Amy approached us about hosting this event, we immediately agreed, as we see every day how faith helps people in times of crisis and uncertainty, and what can be more distressing and disruptive to a family than a cancer diagnosis.”
Discussion breakouts aim to help attendees with expressing spirituality, and identifying what types of spirituality or religious support they might benefit from to help cope with their illness. In addition, Eric Pettigrew from Yoga Shanti will do a chair yoga demonstration, and Maria Maier, trained Crystal and Tibetan Singing Bowls specialist, will join for a singing bowls meditation to end the morning event.
Registration for the event is open to all regardless of denomination or faith and is free at fightingchance.org or by calling the Fighting Chance office at 631-725-4646.
