Guild Hall and HamptonsFilm present Met Under Moonlight, a series of drive-in opera screenings at Main Beach in East Hampton.
The series begins with “Carmen” on Saturday, April 3, at 7:30 PM. Mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča stars as the iconic Gypsy in Richard’s Eyre’s acclaimed 2010 production. With dances created by star choreographer Christopher Wheeldon and conducted by maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin, this “Carmen” brings every aspect of Georges Bizet’s thrilling tale to life, from its lighthearted beginning to its inevitably tragic climax.
“Madama Butterfly” can be viewed on Saturday, April 17, at 7:30 PM, Anthony Minghella’s beautiful, atmospheric production of Puccini’s tragedy returns to cinemas with soprano Kristine Opolais as Cio-Cio-San and tenor Roberto Alagna as Pinkerton. Karel Mark Chichon conducts.
The Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess” is Saturday, May 1, at 7:30 PM. James Robinson’s vibrant production of America’s favorite opera was a smash hit of the Metropolitan Opera’s 2019–20 season. Bass-baritone Eric Owens and soprano Angel Blue star in the title roles. David Robertson conducts the score, which includes a number of melodies that have become classic American standards.
