Keyes Gallery in Sag Harbor will present an exhibition of Hilary Helfant’s work from June 24 to July 14.
Hilary Helfant is a ceramic artist and geometric abstractionist based on the East End of Long Island. Her pieces begin as sphere shapes and develop organically into more eccentric forms. She glazes her pieces by spraying a base color and creating lines using an application bulb to evoke movement and contrast.
Many of Helfant’s pieces resemble objects from the sea and she hopes viewers will take the time to consider and appreciate them just as they would nature. The titles of her collections often bring awareness to pressing environmental issues such as global warming and ocean acidification. While the titles highlight causes for alarm, the pieces themself retain a note of optimism, their sturdy structures reflecting the resilience of Earth and her inhabitants.
The opening reception of this exhibition will take place on June 24 from 6 to 8 PM.
