Parrish Art Museum is partnering with Organización Latino Americana of Eastern Long Island to present Pachanga, a night of high-energy music and dance on the terrace featuring artists Mila Tina and Mambo Loco.
The event is being held in celebration of OLA’s 20th birthday. For 20 years, the nonprofit has served the Latino community on the East End through their advocacy and programs. Under the leadership of Minerva Perez, the organization has grown from being an all-volunteer initiative to having 19 staff members, the majority of whom are Latino or Spanish-speaking and first- or second-generation immigrants from Latin America. The nonprofit prioritizes working with Latino youth and ensuring better access to mental health services for adolescents.
The event will kick off with a multi-sensory performance combining percussion, dance, and visual design by drummer, vocalist, and performance artist Carolina Fuentes, known as Mila Tina. She is a New York-based interdisciplinary artist and educator who inspires with her solo shows that incorporate martial arts, lightening effects, and empowerment-themed video design. A talented drummer, Mila has played with members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and members of Paul Simon’s rhythm section.
Mila Tina will be followed by Mambo Loc, known for their combination of Afro-Cuban and Puerto Rican music with “old school” Latin and Latin Jazz. Members of the band include lead vocalist Larry Belford, Alfredo Gonzalez on trombone, violin, percussion, and vocals, Bill Smith on piano, melodica, and vocals, and Wayne Burgess on bass and vocals.
The event will take place on Friday, June 24. Doors will open at 6 PM and performances will begin at 6:30 PM. Beverages will be available to purchase at Parrish Café. Tickets are $5 for Members and $12 for adult non-members and can be purchased at parrishart.org. The event is free for students and children. Guests must show proof of full vaccination to attend the event and are encouraged to bring their own chairs.
Additionally, OLA will continue its 20th birthday celebration with a cocktail gala on Thursday, July 28, at The Church in Sag Harbor and its 19th Annual Latino Film Festival of the Hamptons beginning on Friday, September 26.
