Kelly’s Weekend Plans: Summer On The North Fork

Happy summer, James Lane readers! As your seasoned connoisseur of all things chic and charming on the North Fork, this city girl is ready to share her pearls of wisdom on the summer delights of this season. Having spent the past 15 years immersing myself in its sun-drenched splendor — from the best restaurants and most luxurious hotels to the lush vineyards, vibrant local farms, and perfect sunset spots — I’ve gotten to know the ins and outs of this idyllic escape like the back of my hand. Each summer, I’ve made it my business to identify the crème de la crème of where to go and what to do. So, grab your sunglasses and sense of adventure, and let’s explore some of my North Fork hot list!

WHERE WE ARE DINING 

This summer, Claudio’s in Greenport is unveiling some major changes. The highlight of this transformation is the expanded waterfront area, featuring additional outdoor space for dockside dining and a seafood-centric menu that showcases the local catch. The venue will host various events, including lobster bakes and a unique supper club series aboard a yacht. Further enhancing the experience, Claudio’s has added more boat slips and a fleet of baby-blue Mokes for complimentary local transport. Special events will continue throughout the summer with wine dinners on the second Tuesday of each month, a biweekly yacht supper club series, monthly lobster bakes with live music, a seaside speakeasy event every third Saturday, and Sundown Sundays offering buy one, get one half-priced drinks, they have also added sushi to the menu ensuring Claudio’s remains a must-visit destination this season.

WHERE WE ARE GETTING COFFEE 

This summer, Aldo’s Coffee Company in Greenport is the go-to spot for coffee aficionados and dessert lovers alike, launching a refreshing array of seasonal delights. Nestled in the heart of the village, Aldo’s offers an immersive experience with its small-batch coffee culture and unparalleled charm. The menu features freshly made and cold brew iced coffees, artisan gelato in six flavors, including the unique caffeinated Orient Espresso, and inventive gelato-croissant sandwiches. Not to be missed are the decadent affogatos, available with a scoop of gelato drowned in a shot of hot organic espresso. Aldo’s partners with Bella Dolce Artisan Gelato to offer gluten-free, all-natural gelato with vegan options. Set against a backdrop of Greenport Village’s Mitchell Parks, Aldo’s provides a perfect blend of alfresco and indoor seating, creating a refined yet casual ambiance ideal for savoring the summer. 

WHERE WE ARE SIPPING WINE

As the mercury rises, the North Fork’s social thermometer points squarely to RGNY, a winery where heritage and innovation blend seamlessly. This summer, RGNY, a vineyard steeped in rich Mexican traditions, is the ultimate destination for the wine connoisseur with a taste for the unique. As pioneers in sustainable winemaking, RGNY doesn’t just craft exquisite wines — they turn each sip into a celebration.

This season, RGNY is the talk of the town, not just for their fine wines but for their unmatched flair for hosting unforgettable gatherings. From luxurious weddings to chic social soirées, this vineyard has become the premier hotspot for revelers and romantics alike. Mark your calendars for a not-to-be-missed event on Saturday, May 25, from 6 to 10 PM, as RGNY commemorates its fifth anniversary. This magical evening will be a cultural celebration, featuring an immersive journey through their five-year winemaking legacy, complete with performances by the Calpulli Mexican Dance Company. Guests will also enjoy a showcase of artist Alexis Zambrano’s latest creations and delightful culinary offerings from Casa Carmen. Make no mistake, RGNY is setting the bar for summer fun and sophistication on the North Fork.

WHERE WE ARE STAYING 

This summer, make a beeline for the North Fork’s chicest escape, Hotel Moraine, in the quaint town of Greenport. Nestled on a picturesque three-acre beachfront parcel, this two-story sanctuary is the epitome of coastal luxury, marrying the charm of the North Fork with modern opulence. The soaring ceilings and glass walls of the hotel’s expansive lobby sets the stage with a trendy bar, boutique shop, and a cozy spot for morning coffee or evening cocktails.

Step outside to find a heated pool, an inviting deck equipped with fire pits, and breathtaking, unobstructed water views. Each of the hotel’s 20 rooms boasts spectacular water views and is adorned with high-end details such as bespoke rugs, custom cabinetry, and spa-like bathrooms featuring soaking tubs or walk-in showers. Luxurious toiletries, fine linens, and plush robes complement the hotel’s serene, coastal-inspired hues and stunning sunset views. 

For those looking to stay active, options abound, with 200 feet of inviting beachfront perfect for swims and stand-up paddleboards for exploring the shoreline. Enjoy an outdoor flow with restorative yoga led by Yanet Garcia. Adding to the allure are the vibrant Saturday evening happy hours for guests and the public, complete with live music and a selection of classic cocktails around the pool. Without a doubt, Hotel Moraine is the place for a luxurious stay on the North Fork this summer.

WHERE WE ARE CATCHING THE BEST SUNSETS

This summer, the ultimate sunset rendezvous on the North Fork is none other than the Low Tide Beach Bar at the Sound View Hotel in Greenport. Known for its jaw-dropping sunset spectacles, Sound View offers a mix of private bliss for hotel guests and vibrant accessibility for the public at this seaside beach bar.

Starting from the first blush of summer, on Friday, May 24, Low Tide Beach Bar kicks off its season at the iconic beachside tiki bar. From 5 to 9 PM, revel in an exquisite selection of craft cocktails, local beers and wines, and a tantalizing limited menu from the Halyard — all while lounging in comfy Adirondack chairs amid cozy fire pits.

The opening weekend is packed with live performances. On Saturday, May 25, enjoy the musical stylings of Jon Divello and Chris Tedesco from 6:30 to 9 PM. Sunday heats up with the Foster Europe Band, led by Rob Europe, setting the stage from 6:30 to 9 PM. The holiday Monday, May 27, features The Second Hands live, ensuring every evening is a feast for the senses. North Shore Leisure will host a pop-up over Memorial Day Weekend, on May 25 and 26, from 5 to 9 PM at Low Tide Beach Bar.

Beyond the weekend, the Halyard will serve dinner on Fridays and Saturdays from 5 to 10 PM and brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 AM to 3 PM. Evening service extends throughout the week, and the piano bar will entertain daily (also an excellent spot for exquisite sunset spotting!)

Mark your calendar for the can’t-miss Beach Ball Summer Soiree on Saturday, August 24, promising an unforgettable night under the stunning sunset skies that the Sound View Hotel is famous for. Low Tide Beach Bar is your passport to the most mesmerizing evenings on the North Fork.

WHERE WE ARE GETTING OYSTERS

This summer, dive into the ultimate oyster experience at Peeko Oysters Farm in New Suffolk. Known as the North Fork’s go-to spot for oyster aficionados and curious foodies alike, Peeko offers an immersive 90-minute tour that is as educational as it is engaging. 

Begin your journey with a behind-the-scenes look at the sophisticated machinery and gear essential to oyster farming, where you’ll gain firsthand insight into the cultivation process that makes these sea gems so special. Then, step up to the dock for the interactive highlight of the tour — a private shucking lesson followed by a delicious oyster tasting, paired with local wines and beers reserved exclusively for your group.

Whether you’re looking to sharpen your culinary skills or simply snap the perfect seaside photo, Peeko Oysters provides a unique blend of learning and leisure, making it a must-visit destination on the North Fork this season. WHERE WE ARE SPENDING FAMILY TIME

This summer, Fridays are family pizza nights at Meadowlark Vineyard in Cutchogue. Known for its picturesque setting and community vibe, Meadowlark offers the perfect blend of relaxation and revelry every Friday from 4 to 8 PM with its beloved Garden Pizza Parties.

Launching the season on May 24 with the famed Roberta’s Pizza, Meadowlark invites you to unwind with the fam as you sip on exquisite wines from the Macari portfolio, available by the glass or bottle. These selections not only tantalize your taste buds but also embody Macari Vineyards’ commitment to a love of life and a sustainable future, deeply rooted in the region’s heritage.

While adults savor their wines and gourmet pies, children can mingle and play in the vineyard’s expansive outdoor spaces. Meadowlark Vineyard is a place to experience the joy of the North Fork’s vibrant community and memory-making summer evenings.
