Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio & Kidd Squid Brew Co. Launch Artist Collaboration Series

Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio, an Indigenous-led communal art space on the Shinnecock Indian Nation territory, along with Kidd Squid Brew Co., a craft brewery in Sag Harbor, announce a new creative project. This collaboration showcases the work of BIPOC artists in Kidd Squid’s Moon Series, a rotating lineup of small-batch hazy IPAs brewed and released with each full moon. An artist chosen by Ma’s House will create the label for selected releases, with each beer named after the traditional Indigenous name for that month’s moon.

The collaboration is designed to elevate BIPOC artists to a wider audience while providing ongoing support to Ma’s House and its mission. The inaugural label in the series has been designed by artist Stephen Longoria, a California-based printmaker and muralist whose vibrant, rebellious work explores themes of identity, culture, and social justice.

Drawing on the rich histories of printmaking and graffiti, Longoria creates art that reflects the diverse subcultures within these mediums and serves as a tool for dialogue with lesser-known communities in the art world. A former resident artist at Ma’s House in 2023, he has produced a series of pieces rooted in the East End, including East Hampton and Montauk. His artwork will appear on Ma’s House India Pale Ale, a limited edition releasing in conjunction with this year’s only blue moon, available in the Kidd Squid tasting room at 11 Spring Street, Sag Harbor.

“This collaboration with Kidd Squid is a meaningful way to put the artwork of BIPOC artists directly into the hands – and homes – of our East End community,” said Jeremy Dennis, founder and lead artist of Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio. “For thousands of years, our ancestors closely observed the moon to survive – using its cycles to dictate everything from the coastal tides to our medicinal harvests. In the Hamptons, where BIPOC communities are often made to feel invisible or marginalized, this partnership with Kidd Squid is a vital act of visibility. By featuring artists like Stephen Longoria, who immersed himself in our community to create work inspired by our culture, we are amplifying the Shinnecock story and ensuring our presence on this land is recognized, respected, and impossible to ignore.”

“From the beginning, Kidd Squid has been about local ingredients, local stories, and local collaborators, and there’s no collaborator more essential to the story of this land than the Shinnecock community and the artists Ma’s House champions,” said Gráinne Coen, co-founder of Kidd Squid Brew Co. “The Moon Series has always been our most creative canvas, and handing that canvas over to artists selected by Jeremy and the Ma’s House team is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time. Stephen Longoria’s work is a stunning way to kick this off – bold, expressive, and deeply connected to the East End, and we can’t wait for people to discover the beer and the artist together.”

A portion of proceeds from each artist-designed Moon Series release will support Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio. The launch release will be celebrated at Kidd Squid’s tasting room on Friday, May 29, at 5 PM. The event will feature live music and is free and open to the public.
