Out East Studio, founded by Shola Farber, has partnered with New York City-based artist Morgane Richer La Fleche to create a limited edition collaboration this holiday season: a handmade and hand-painted marzipan fish presented in a hand-painted “tinned fish” box.
Farber, who grew up in East Hampton within a family of artists and creatives, is a successful software entrepreneur turned startup advisor. She began spending more time in East Hampton with her family during the Covid-19 pandemic. Her mother — a celebrated chef who has created meals for celebrities and sitting presidents — taught her how to make marzipan, a confection consisting of almond flour, almond extract, and sugar.
Richer La Fleche is a self-taught artist and a longtime friend of Farber who spent time on the East End during the pandemic. Her paintings during this period were influenced by the flora, history, and renowned light of the East End. Upon experiencing Farber’s marzipan, the idea for the collaboration was born.
The marzipan tinned fish are available at S&S coffee shop in Springs, Orient Linen Company on the North Fork, and the holiday market at The Longhouse Reserve in East Hampton this Saturday from 4 to 7 PM. They are also available to ship. Email hello@outeaststudio.com.
