Southampton Village Launches Historic Walking Tours App To Celebrate Local Heritage

Southampton Village has launched the Southampton Village Historic Walking Tours, a free, downloadable, self-guided mobile app designed to bring the Village’s rich history to life. The initiative, led by Southampton Village Mayor William Manger, highlights Southampton’s historical legacy through walking tours that are accessible anytime, from anywhere within the Village.

The tours feature over 30 landmarks in and around the Village — as well as selected, curated shorter excursions themed to special interests. Black History in Southampton highlights the people, places, and contributions that have shaped the area’s African American heritage. The Southampton Village Revolutionary History Tour includes landmarks connected to that period of American history. A Veterans & Military Heritage Tour includes monuments and historic spots honoring Southampton’s veterans and highlighting the village’s long tradition of service across generations.

“This initiative is about celebrating the extraordinary history that surrounds us every day in Southampton Village,” said Mayor Manger. “By making these stories accessible through a free and easy-to-use app, we’re inviting everyone — whether you’ve lived here for decades or are visiting for the first time — to discover the fascinating history here and connect with the Village in a deeper way.”

Key historic sites featured across the tours range from Veterans Hall, the Pelletreau Shop, and Monument Square to the Southampton African American Museum and the Dune Church, offering a comprehensive look at the Village’s history.

“As our nation celebrates its 250th Anniversary, we wanted to launch this Historical Walking Tour series this year. We are one of America’s oldest communities, first settled as part of Southampton Town in 1640 and later incorporated as the Village of Southampton in 1894. We wanted to provide an opportunity to experience the stories, landmarks, and people that helped shape both our Village — and our country,” said Mayor Manger.

For historical accuracy, Village Historian Mary Cummings provided the content for the points of interest. Designed by Thorn Creative Marketing with flexibility in mind, the tours can be experienced at the user’s own pace, with routes varying in length and starting from multiple points throughout the Village.
