The Church in Sag Harbor will present “Threading The Needle,” an exhibition of contemporary art using fabric and fiber practices. Curated by Sara Cochran and Eric Fischl, the exhibition features work by 44 American, African, European, and South American artists. It includes the first work that incorporates The Church’s architecture, a large-scale piece by Sheila Pepe that hangs from the rafters.
The featured work centers around themes of the body and its distortions, politics and identity, webbing, and stitching. The exhibition aims to blur the boundaries that have been constructed between fine art and craft as well as between ascribed gender roles. The displayed work raises questions and prompts conversations about fashion, design, politics, race, gender identity, and technology.
The opening of the exhibition will take place June 30 from 6 to 8 PM. The exhibition will run from July 1 to September 18.
