The Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation invites the community to “Get Wet for a Good Cause” at the 14th Annual Montauk Swim Challenge, taking place from Saturday, July 23, to Saturday, July 30.
Held as a virtual online event via the Elite Feats athletic event platform, the Montauk Swim Challenge features three distance categories for swimmers of all ages and abilities. Beginners can sign up for a half-mile swim, more experienced swimmers can register for the one-mile swim, and the adventurous can tackle the 5K swim. Participants will seek personal sponsors for their swim, swim their chosen distance, and log their results online. Swimmers will choose their own location to complete their swim — pool, ocean, bay, lake, etc.
Julia McCormack, Development Director of the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation, said, “We’re thrilled to continue the tradition of the Montauk Swim Challenge as a virtual event again this summer. The virtual format allows for more participation, isn’t weather dependent, and has been a successful fundraising format for the Foundation over the last two years. As we continue working toward our mission of completing the Playhouse with Aquatic and Cultural Centers, we look forward to the day when we can hold in-person swim races and events at the pool in the Playhouse. We invite the entire community to participate in the Swim Challenge — this is an especially fun summer activity for kids and families!”
Participants can register in advance on elitefeats.com (click “Events” and enter “Montauk” in the search bar). Registration is $40.
Proceeds from the Montauk Ocean Swim Challenge will benefit the mission to construct Aquatic and Cultural Arts Centers at the Montauk Playhouse Community Center. To learn more about the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation, visit montaukplayhouse.org.
