The Victor D’Amico Institute of Art presents a Docent Program to supplement the mission of the organization, which aims to motivate, inspire, and enrich individuals of all ages at two sites.
This program will facilitate an expanded schedule of tours at The D’Amico Institute, which is located in Amagansett and consists of The Mabel and Victor D’Amico Studio and Archive in Lazy Point, the former home and studio of Mabel D’Amico (1909-1998) and Victor D’Amico (1904-1987); and The Art Barge in Napeague, a summer art school on a remodeled World War II Navy barge.
The program seeks to educate and empower a group of volunteer docents to act as ambassadors for Mabel and Victor D’Amico’s broad and inclusive philosophy of art education. D’Amico Docents will serve as guides at the D’Amico Studio and Archive and The Art Barge as a means to fulfill and further the mission of The D’Amico Institute.
On a tour lasting roughly one hour, visitors will be guided through the former home of Mabel and Victor D’Amico in Lazy Point and get a sense of early modern living on the East End, learn about the couple’s history as progressive art educators, and enjoy the vast collection of objects, furnishings, ephemera, and artworks, along with the breathtaking vistas of Gardiner’s Bay and Napeague Harbor.
Tours are by reservation only and the scheduled times are Thursdays at 2 PM, Saturdays at 11 AM and 2 PM, and Sundays at 11 AM.
Beginning July 8, a combined tour of the D’Amico Studio and The Art Barge will be available every Thursday at 2 PM. Visitors can sign up for this extended tour that begins at the D’Amico House and ends across the harbor at The Art Barge (approximately 1.5 hours).
