Dance Theatre of Harlem closed out a two-day Hamptons celebration, opening with a performance at Guild Hall on Friday, July 17, and capping things off Saturday with an intimate afternoon at Chef Aliya LeeKong’s Water Mill home.
Friday’s program brought two works from the company’s repertoire to the Guild Hall stage: “Blake Works IV (The Barre Project),” choreographed by William Forsythe to music by James Blake, and “Higher Ground,” created by Artistic Director Robert Garland to the music of Stevie Wonder. Garland joined members of the company afterward for a conversation with the audience.
Saturday’s Golden Hour: On Pointe brought the celebration home — a relaxed afternoon of conversation, connection, and community, hosted in partnership with the Nine Dean Institute. Sunny Hostin was among the guests, alongside Chanté Moore, Stephen Hill, Scott Mills, and Clarence Nesbitt.
DTH board members Sunny Hostin, Stephanie Horton, Marcie Cleary, and Jamie Wynn, each of whom joined the board earlier this year, were also on hand, continuing their active role in advancing the company’s mission.
The weekend’s host committee included Heather Benjamin, Terri Prettyman Bowles, Marcie Cleary, Bobby Flay, Xochitl Gonzalez, Stephanie Horton, Sunny Hostin, Aliya LeeKong, Loida Lewis, Trey Muldrow, Wendell Scott, Bonita C. Stewart, and Sanford Biggers.
