Southampton Arts Center presents the return of “East End Collected,” the popular exhibition celebrating the extraordinary creative community on the East End. Now in its ninth iteration, the exhibition continues its tradition of presenting exceptional artists who live and work in Suffolk County.
Originally conceived and curated by artist Paton Miller, “East End Collected” continues the next chapter, with Miller co-curating the exhibition for the second time with Christina Mossaides Strassfield, Executive Director of Southampton Arts Center.
The exhibition reflects both curators’ shared vision of the East End as an inspiring and ideal environment for artists to create. Continuing the tradition established over the first eight exhibitions, the curators have sought out artists whose work has not previously been featured in “East End Collected,” providing new opportunities for artists to share their work while contributing to the rich history of artistic achievement in the Hamptons.
The exhibition has no prescribed theme. Instead, “East End Collected” celebrates the region’s remarkable talent, diversity, and creative energy. The exhibition will feature a broad range of artistic media, including painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and ceramics.
“The artistic diversity of our area continues to amaze me. These East End Collective exhibitions are chronicling what is happening here in real time. History will make the final press,” said Paton Miller, artist and co-curator of “East End Collected.”
The participating artists represent the breadth of the East End’s creative community. Some have been part of the region for decades, while others are relative newcomers. Together, they demonstrate the vitality, diversity, and enduring camaraderie of the Long Island art community.
“We are delighted to bring together such an exceptional group of artists who all share a connection to Suffolk County,” said Christina Mossaides Strassfield, Executive Director of Southampton Arts Center. “This exhibition is a celebration of the extraordinary creative energy that continues to make the East End such a special place for artists.”
To enhance the visitor experience, Southampton Arts Center will present a series of artist panel discussions and guided tours led by the curators throughout the exhibition. Wall text featuring artists’ statements and brief biographies will provide additional insight into the artists and their practices, encouraging visitors to engage more deeply with the work on view.
Featured artists include Deborah Acquino, Sophia Ader, Henry Baker, Dee Benish, Peter Beston, Walter Bobbi, Rossa Cole, Anahi DeCanio, Lucy deKooning, AG Duggan, Dorothy Frankel, Pat Garrity, Lucas Greffenius Scheuer, Harrison Haft, Kara Hoblin, Edward Joseph, Richard Law, Elizabeth Levine, Christa Maiwald, Holly Maran, Jon Auliffe, John Mellilo, ByeongDoo Moon, Grace Osborne, Oliver Peterson, Robert Singer, Ben Sosne, Janice Stanton, and Katie Whipple.
The exhibit will be on view at Southampton Arts Center from October 3 through December 27.
