Fall Fishing Showdown For Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital

Twenty-three boats filled with fishermen tackled the waters of Peconic Bay to support Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital.

The fifth Annual Fall Fishing Showdown kicked off on Friday, September 29, with supporters joining together for the Captains Huddle at Port of Egypt Marine in Southold. Next up was the annual Lobster Bash on Saturday night featuring a platter filled with fresh seafood, prepared by Charlie Manwaring and his crew from Southold Fish Market.

Bash-goers danced the night away to Gene Casey and the Lone Sharks, not letting the less than ideal weather get in the way of a great evening to support the hospital. The much-anticipated tournament took place on Sunday, October 1, and the anglers did not disappoint. The introduction of a Catch and Release division for striped bass led to a very competitive category.

Our winners this year were as follows: Striped Bass Category: 1st Place – Duryea’s – Vanderbruggen / 2nd Place – Port of Egypt Marine / 3rd Place – Duryea’s – Valentino, Blue Fish Category: 1st Place – 3 Js 2 / 2nd Place – Port of Egypt Marine/ 3rd Place – Sea is for Cookie, Porgy: 1st Place – Sea is for Cookie.

“It’s a way to give back to the patients in need,” said Dave Basile, Chairman of the Tournament. “I’m very proud to be a part of our team.”

“This is such a unique and fun event that builds and builds every year,” said Paul Connor, Chief Administrative Officer, Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital. “We appreciate everyone joining in to support the hospital while enjoying these beautiful waters that we call home.”

SBELIH raised a record amount this year and every dollar benefits the most critical program needs, including patient-centered care. Over 30 sponsors participated in the Fishing Showdown.
