The 24 Hour Plays On Shelter Island At Rams Head Inn
MEDIA ALERT
THE 24 HOUR PLAYS
COME TO THE WATERFRONT OF SHELTER ISLAND
AT THE RAMS HEAD INN
“THE PLAY’S THE THING”
WHAT: The 24 Hour Plays are an enduring New York City institution with licensed affiliates and partners that produce The 24 Hour Plays and Musicals in theaters and schools worldwide, impacting everyone from celebrities to students and strengthening creative communities worldwide. Since 1995, the group has brought theater to high schools, colleges, and community groups to share the magic of the production process. A newly minted “company” assembles for the first time with the mission of writing, rehearsing and performing an original new play in just 24 hours from start to finish. The Rams Head Inn has partnered with The 24 Hour Plays to bring this theatrical phenomenon to Shelter Island.
WHO: Mark Armstrong, Artistic Director, and Madelyn Paquette, Managing Director, of The 24 Hours Plays have assembled a stellar company of stars from Broadway, film and TV for this special performance. The participants include Devon Bostick (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Oppenheimer), Dylan Gelula (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Kevin Artigu (Sheepdog), Olli Haaskivi (Oppenheimer), Rebecca Naomi Jones (American Idol, Oklahoma!), and more. The artists will race the clock to present a singular evening of one-night-only theater.
Fun fact: Actors Devon Bostick and Olli Haaskivi had roles in the movie Oppenheimer. Robert Oppenheimer was among a group of nuclear scientists, including Albert Einstein and Linus Pauling, who famously met at the Rams Head Inn.
WHEN: One night only, Friday, July 12, 2024. Curtain at 7:00 pm
The marathon process begins the night before when writers, directors, actors and production staff gather for a dynamic Meet & Greet to fuel the creativity for the following evening. The playwrights craft a short play overnight while actors and directors rest. Then the following morning, actors and directors spring into action with scripts hot-off-the-press to begin rehearsal. The countdown continues until the curtain rises.

ABOUT THE RAMS HEAD INN
Built in the 1920s by an intrepid female bootlegger, the colonial-style manor house on Coecles Harbor played host to its share of covert operations during the 20th century, famously hosting a post-WWII gathering of nuclear scientists (among them: Robert Oppenheimer, Albert Einstein, and Linus Pauling). One hundred-plus years later, a new story is being written, now run by female real estate investor Aandrea Carter. The property is fresh off a significant refurbishment and is unveiling its first-ever beach bar this summer. Opening to a vast rolling lawn and i900-foot private beach, the new dining option exudes a genteel country-club vibe, with a white-tablecloth service and seasonal coastal fare, including seafood sourced from the surrounding bay and harbor and farm-fresh ingredients pulled from the property’s organic garden and on-site apiary (the only one on Shelter Island). From noon until sunset, guests and visitors are able to order champagne and rosé and picnic-ready fare (think lobster rolls and freshly harvested oysters) on Rams Head Beach, while enjoying live music at golden hour and lawn games like bocce and corn hole. The property is also unveiling a brand-new dock, and there is even a herd of wooly sheep. www.theramsheadinn.com.
