On June 22, Guild Hall, in collaboration with the John Chamberlain Estate, will host a conversation with Alexandra Fairweather, Director of the Chamberlain Estate.

Together with special guests, she will discuss the intersection of art, design, and the impact of Chamberlain’s work. Learn about the new book, “Living with Chamberlain,” a deeply personal exploration of John Chamberlain’s legacy published by Assouline.

Featuring a foreword by Rick Owens, as well as interviews and conversations with family, friends, gallerists, and collectors, this intimate and personal volume uncovers how Chamberlain’s art has impacted the lives of many, including personalities as diverse as those reflected in Chamberlain’s wide-ranging artistic expressions. A section of the book focuses on Chamberlain’s residence and studio on Shelter Island, which now serves to preserve his legacy.

Among the many stories contained, collectors Bruce and Barbara Berger recount how they traded a refrigerator for their Chamberlain sculpture in 1972. Yvonne Force Villareal shares how she met her husband, artist Leo Villareal, at an exhibition of Chamberlain couches. Fashion designer Matthew Williams and artist Solange Knowles discuss their individual experiences with Chamberlain’s art and his creative influence on their work. Fashion designer Vera Wang shares how a chance encounter at MoMA-led to an unusual late-life friendship with the artist.

The conversation is programmed in tandem with the exhibition, “Functional Relationships,” on view through July 13 at Guild Hall. Tickets start at $25.
