Sound View in Greenport continues its Uncommon Art Residence Program for 2023. The hotel has invited a new group of emerging artists, who live and work throughout the property during their residency, to be inspired by the North Fork.
An artist talk & show with abstract landscape painter Grant Haffner will be held on Thursday, March 2, from 5 to 6 PM, in front of the Halyard fireplace.
Born 1978 in Berkeley, California, Haffner was raised in East Hampton and currently lives and works in Western Massachusetts. His images are inspired by and reflect the country roads, flat landscapes, and surrounding water that he would absorb while driving through the East End. His works depict utility poles and the open road to create an original sense of movement and depth.
Also in residence is actor and writer Devin Burnam through March 6. A solo performance at The Harborfront Inn at Greenport of “How Not To Buy a Boat” will be held on Friday March 3, from 4 to 5 PM.
Burnam is a Brooklyn-based playwright, poet, musician, director, and performer with a deep obsession with social justice and climate activism. He loves changing non-theaters into theaters, and believes that theatre should be accessible to all.
Artist Loren Erdrich is in residence from March 1 to 8. An artist talk and open studio will be held on Sunday, March 5, from 5 to 6 PM.
Using organic and synthetic dyes and raw pigments mixed primarily with water on raw canvas and muslin, Erdrich creates atmospheric images that drift in and out of focus and wholly embody the unpredictable nature and fluidity of water.
Installation artist Noami Clark will continue the residency from March 10 to 17.
