The Clamshell Foundation’s 35th Annual Sandcastle Contest Returns To Atlantic Avenue Beach

The Clamshell Foundation presents the return of its beloved 35th Annual Sandcastle Contest on Saturday, August 8, from 10 AM to 3 PM at Atlantic Avenue Beach in Amagansett.

Now celebrating its 35th year, the Sandcastle Contest has become one of the East End’s longest-running family beach traditions, bringing together generations of families, artists, and beach lovers for a day of creativity, friendly competition, and community spirit. Participants of all ages and skill levels are invited to build their own sandcastle masterpieces, whether they’re first-time builders or seasoned competitors.

“Reaching our 35th Sandcastle Contest is something we’re incredibly proud of,” said William Kalbacher, co-founder of the Clamshell Foundation. “For thirty-five years, this event has brought families together to laugh, create, and make memories on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It’s a wonderful reminder that community doesn’t have to be complicated — it starts with people coming together. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to Atlantic Avenue Beach to celebrate this special milestone and continue a tradition that has become part of the fabric of the East End.”

The annual Sandcastle Contest is one of the Clamshell Foundation’s signature community events, helping raise awareness and support for the Foundation’s mission of improving the lives of East End residents through charitable giving and community programs. As an all-volunteer nonprofit organization, the Foundation relies on the generosity of donors, sponsors, and community partners to continue its work throughout the year.

Participants are encouraged to bring their creativity, beach tools, and team spirit for a fun-filled day on the sand. Awards will be presented in multiple categories, and spectators are welcome to enjoy the incredible creations throughout the day.

In addition to the contest, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase the exclusive 35th Anniversary commemorative T-shirt, with proceeds supporting the Clamshell Foundation’s year-round charitable initiatives throughout the East End. This year’s shirt features a photograph of the iconic East Hampton “Stilt House” by East End photographer Virginia Bennis. The image celebrates one of the area’s most recognizable landmarks and the coastal heritage that has inspired generations of residents and visitors.
