For the past seven years, the East Hampton Historical Society has hosted lively and informative luncheons, with the intent to explore, illuminate, and celebrate the beauty and rich history of the community.
This year’s Summer Lecture Luncheon has brought together acclaimed interior designer Stephen Sills in conversation with David Netto. Stephen Sills just released his third book, A Vision for Design (Rizzoli). Wanting it to be a teaching book, Sills asked David Netto to write the text with his mission in mind.
David Netto will engage Stephen Sills in a Q&A as the designer walks us through his projects featuring a wide variety of styles and locations — including the East End of Long Island — and his own house and garden, which Karl Lagerfeld described as “The chicest house in America.” The East Hampton Historical Society will host its annual Summer Lecture Luncheon at the Maidstone Club, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, on Thursday, August 10 at 11 AM.
The Summer Lecture Luncheon is made possible in part by the generous support of Wilmington Trust, Christie’s, and media sponsor Town & Country. Proceeds from the program will benefit the ongoing restoration, collections, and exhibition projects of the East Hampton Historical Society.

Stephen Sills is a celebrated interior designer specializing in transforming interiors into timeless and unique environments for modern living. He approaches every project with sensitivity to the architecture, function, and history of the space, enriching the vision of the client. With a fresh approach to classicism, Sills brings together furnishings that span four centuries and innovative choices of surfaces, textures, and colors. His Bedford residence is included in Dominic Bradbury’s “American Designers at Home” and HGTV’s “Top 10 Most Beautiful Homes.” Stephen is consistently included in Elle Décor’s A List of the top Designers and is now in their select group of “Titans of Design.” He has been a member of Architectural Digest’s AD100 since 1996, and is one of their “30 Deans of American Design” and in the AD100 Hall of Fame. In October of 2013, Stephen Sills Decoration, was received to enormous acclaim. His follow-up book, Stephen Sills: A Vision for Design, was released in the fall of 2022. Current projects include; waterfront estates in Palm Beach and Southampton, family homes in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Greenwich, CT, several private apartments in Manhattan and a townhouse in London.

David Netto is a Los Angeles-based interior designer and writer who grew up coming to East Hampton and spends as much time as possible at his house on the beach in Amagansett. He has worked as a contributing design editor to the Wall Street Journal, T, the New York Times Style Magazine, and now writes the Case Studies column for Town & Country. Recently David authored monographs on the work of Francois Catroux and of Stephen Sills. A book representing 20 years of his own designs will be published this fall with Vendome. David Netto Design LLC is now active in LA with projects on both the east and west coasts, and recently the Bahamas, London, and Arizona. His projects have been published in Vogue, Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, House & Garden, Town & Country, and Veranda, as well as several books.
