The Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill presents “In the Light of the Garden,” an exhibition of work by preeminent Spanish artists Joaquín Sorolla and Esteban Vicente, inspired by the color and light that emanated from their gardens. The exhibition features over 50 works, including paintings dating from 1916 to 1919 by Sorolla and paintings, works on paper, and small sculptures made between 1985 and 2000 by Vicente.
“In the Light of the Garden” showcases work that reflects Sorella and Vicente’s mutual affinity for the garden as both theme and inspiration. The exhibition is augmented by paintings and works on paper by Parrish collection artists including Jennifer Bartlett, Charles Burchfield, William Merritt Chase, Robert Dash, Arshile Gorky, Robert Jakob, Jane Peterson, William Lamb Picknell, Fairfield Porter, Ned Smyth, Saul Steinberg, Joseph Stella, Michelle Stuart, Billy Sullivan, and Donald Sultan — each inspired by their own landscapes.
The exhibition will run from August 7 to October 16.
