The Playwrights’ Theatre of East Hampton will present a staged reading of “Whistlejacket,” a new play in development by playwright Charles Z. Bornstein, on Sunday, November 8, at 4 PM at LTV Studios.
The presentation is a “first read” of a new work, giving audiences the educational chance to hear a play at its earliest stages of development. Following the reading, audience members are invited to discuss the piece with the playwright.
“Whistlejacket” centers on Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy, the youngest daughter of Joseph P. Kennedy. In 1938, she moved to London, where her father was serving as U.S. Ambassador, and quickly became popular there. Against her family’s wishes, she married William “Billy” Hartington, heir to the Duke of Devonshire.
After the deaths of Billy and her brother Joe, Kick met Earl Peter Wentworth Fitzwilliam. The two were killed in a private-plane crash while traveling to Paris to seek her father’s permission to marry.
This staged reading features music and video projection, with sound design by Andy Evan Cohen and projection design by Hudson Woelk. The reading is directed by LTV Executive and Creative Director Josh Gladstone. Karin Hoelzl will read as Kick, Sam Adams as Peter Fitzwilliam, and in the ensemble are Carolann Dipirro, Rob Doyle, Josh Gladstone, Carly Cooper, and Cameron Eastland. LTV producers are Gaylin Davey and Antoinette Lanza.
Admission is free, and registration is suggested. Visit ltveh.org.
