A Conversation & Unveiling Of The Official Southampton Playhouse Summer Season Poster With Artist Jeff Koons

The Southampton Playhouse unveils its official exclusive poster for the season, designed and donated by prolific artist Jeff Koons. Koons will reveal his poster and discuss his influences during a conversation with artistic director Eric Kohn at the Playhouse on June 12 from 4 to 5 PM.

One of the most prominent artists working today, Jeff Koons is known for his bold paintings and sculptures. His work challenges the limitations of fabrication while transforming everyday images and objects into works of art that engage the viewer in a dialogue with the present and our historical past.

“I’m honored to have been asked to share my work for the Playhouse’s summer season,” said Koons. “Returning to the East End, where I have shared many works and have spent much time, feels like a homecoming.”

Koons earned renown for his public works, such as the monumental floral sculptures Puppy and Split-Rocker. For four decades, Koons has created works that explore themes of self-acceptance and transcendence. Koons’s work has been shown in galleries, museums, and cultural institutions throughout the world. Koons’s work is in numerous collections, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Museum of Contemporary Art (Tokyo), The Museum of Modern Art (New York), National Gallery of Art (Washington, D.C), Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), Tate Gallery (London), the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York), and more.

“We are honored to welcome Jeff Koons to the Southampton Playhouse, and are grateful he has graciously donated this piece of art to our Southampton Playhouse community,” said Southampton Playhouse Executive Director Maria A Botsacos. “Our mission at the Playhouse is to enrich the Southampton community and beyond, celebrating the past, present, and future of the moving image, and Jeff’s work does just that.”
