The Watermill Center presents Artists’ Table with Artist Natalia Lassalle-Morillo and Chef Jennie Werts on Saturday, October 11, from 12 to 2:30 PM.
Artists’ Table is Watermill’s year-round series offering an intimate conversation with an acclaimed artist paired with a farm-to-table meal. Join for a presentation by Natalia Lassalle-Morillo and ensemble, followed by a family-style meal prepared by Chef Jennie Werts of Ellen’s on Front and Jennie’s at Drossos.
Natalia Lassalle-Morillo is an artist whose transdisciplinary, research-based practice reconstructs memory and history through performance, film, and installation. Collaborating with non-professional performers and researchers, she challenges colonial and imperial narratives and explores Caribbean collective memory. Her work blends theater and camera-based methodologies to propose alternative historiographies and new mythologies. She has exhibited at venues including RedCat, Amant, and Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico, and has been a fellow or resident at the Smithsonian, Headlands Center for the Arts, Pioneer Works, and Fonderie Darling. Her current project, “En Parábola/Conversations on Tragedy” is a multi-year project reimagining the myth of Antigone through the lived experiences of Puerto Ricans in New York City and across the archipelago.
Jennie Werts is an award-winning chef and graduate of the International Culinary Center. She began her career in kitchens on the North Fork, working summers during college. She has since held senior positions working with chefs, including Tom Valenti at Ovest and Richard Sandoval at Zengo. She then served as Chef de Cuisine and founder of Wolfert’s Roost in Irvinaton, NY. This will be Jennie’s eighth season at Jennie’s at Drossos, her seasonal Greenport pop-up and her sixth at her year-round establishment Ellen’s on Front, located in Greenport Village. Jennie believes food should be fun, captivating, and, of course, delicious. Ellen’s on Front’s hallmarks are combining flavors and cultures in new ways, trying something new, and enjoying friends and family.
Presented in partnership with Abrons Arts Center, the event is also supported by Drs. Mark and June Halsey and Halsey Dermatology.
