If you grew up in East Hampton in the 1960s and ’70s, and worked at Georgica Beach, you likely reported to Catherine “Katie” Babcock, beach manager from 1967 to 1979. Her favorite phrase, “Not on my beach,” was celebrated with her extended family on Tuesday, May 11, during a Proclamation from the Village of East Hampton. A permanent plaque in Babcock’s name will be mounted on the “Memorial Georgica Beach Building.” East Hampton Village Chief of Police Michael Tracey, a former Georgica Beach worker before joining the police department, organized the Dedication.
