Life is really a box of chocolates for a local Long Island high school student, who will have her artwork featured in a new collection of hand crafted artisanal chocolates this summer.
Ella Grover, 18, was selected from a group of Mattituck High School art students to illustrate the North Fork Map that will be included in Disset Chocolate’s new 2022 Ode to the North Fork, a collaboration between Disset Chocolate and popular East End purveyors. The bonbon collection is a unique edible journey inspired by flavors of the region.
Disset founder Ursula XVII took the project to Mattituck High School’s art department, inviting students to submit their own creative designs inspired by last year’s map, designed by chalk artist Kara Hoblin. Four finalists were selected, and their designs were shared on social media for voters to pick their favorite. Glover, the winner, is a senior who plans to attend art school in the fall.
“I wanted to involve the local community even more with this year’s collection,” said Ursula XVII. “We decided to collaborate with the very talented art students at Mattituck High. Not only was the contest a success, it was a blast spending the day with the kids, painting on chocolate, before they went on to create their versions of the map. I’d like to congratulate all of them for their creativity and efforts.”
The 2022 Disset Ode to the North Fork collection features eight collaborators and delicious, unique flavors including Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese (Eccentric Bagel), Lemon Caramel from Lemon Preserves (Noah’s), Blood Orange Aperitif (Matchbook Distillery), Heart “Beet” (The Giving Room), Dark Chocolate Caramel Goat Cheese (Catapano Dairy), Potato Chips (North Fork Chips), English Butter Toffee Ice Cream (Magic Fountain), and Biscuit with Honey Butter (Main Road Biscuit).
The collection is available beginning June 17 both online and at Atelier Disset in Cutchogue, and sells for $49.
