The Parrish Art Museum presents a live-stream talk with Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, cofounders and designers of Proenza Schouler, and Parrish Director Kelly Taxter on Tuesday, April 20, from 5 to 6 PM.
The designers chose the Parrish to film the presentation of their Fall/Winter 2021 Ready-to-Wear collection for New York Fashion Week, and for their talk with Taxter, will discuss the intersection of art, fashion, architecture, and nature. The conversation will kick off with clips from the video followed by discussion and audience Q&A.
“Jack and Lazaro have a vast knowledge of art and artists, and their collections have always revealed their deep interest and embrace of visual art,” said Taxter. “The swiftness and surfaces of fashion and clothing allow designers to respond to the issues of the moment; what we wear tells a story about who we are at a particular time. I have always looked at fashion as yet another lens for understanding culture as it unfolds.”
In 2002, McCollough and Hernandez founded the New York-based womenswear and accessories brand Proenza Schouler, defined by its fusion of craftsmanship and refined ease. The designers combine inspiration from youth culture and contemporary art with an emphasis on tailoring and the use of custom developed fabrics.
In February 2021, Proenza Schouler brought their collection and nine models to the Parrish Art Museum, where poured concrete walkways that extend along the north and south sides of the Herzog & de Meuron building provided a natural runway. The two-day shoot also marked the modelling debut of Ella Emhoff.
The event is free. Viewers must register in advance at parrishart.org.
