Saunders & Associates Introduces The Landing By Heiberg Cummings

Saunders & Associates has introduced “The Landing” on Shelter Island — the new project from renowned design team Heiberg Cummings. Exclusively represented by Saunders agent Stacey Cohen, “The Landing” is Heiberg Cummings’ first project on Shelter Island. An inspired masterpiece of design, it is situated on a western-facing waterfront acre with a dock, on a quiet street with little traffic. The farmhouse is designed to blend seamlessly with its setting, surrounded by the beachy landscape with its fine-textured ornamental grasses, beds with low bamboos, and tall perimeter pines which ensures privacy.

This home has four bedrooms, all en suite, and four full baths with radiant-heated floors. Sunset views from the primary suite are spectacular. “In fact,” said Stacey Cohen, “There are western-facing sunset views from almost every single room in the house. It’s a magical getaway.”

All the floors are of reclaimed barn flooring, interior walls are stucco, and the living room features a dramatic cathedral ceiling, magnificent sunset views and a beautiful stucco fireplace. The living and dining rooms both have beamed ceilings, and the kitchen island is a reclaimed workbench. The kitchen, dining room, and terrace all present water and sunset views. Sinks throughout the home are concrete, with gunite faucets. Closets have sliding barn-style doors and all are lit. The primary suite includes a bath with trough sink, glass shower, and radiant heated flooring.  A guest suite in a separate wing affords privacy; a window seat in the bedroom overlooks the pool below. Downstairs is a library and screening room, two en-suite guest rooms with water view and glass doors to the grounds. A spa with steam shower also opens to the outdoors.

Outdoor spaces are designed with no detail left unconsidered. There is a deep water dock, a waterside 55′ heated saltwater gunite pool with automatic cover, a pool house with skylit bar, and a fire pit, all executed with Heiberg Cummings’ inimitable style.

“It’s really a boater’s dream,” observed Cohen. She described patios on two levels overlooking the water, and there is not just an outdoor shower but also an outdoor bathtub. Vignettes of outdoor seating are designed for entertaining, illuminated by gas lights, with moon lights shining down through the trees. We imagine that evenings here are a special delight.

As William Cummings has said, “Design without context is like a boat without a rudder – you will just float.” The context for “The Landing” couldn’t be more perfect.
