Sound View Greenport Hosts 2026 Uncommon Arts Residency & Nameless Writers Salon

Sound View Greenport’s winter cultural calendar officially launches with the return of two acclaimed creative initiatives: the Uncommon Arts Residency, now in its eighth year, and the Nameless Writers Salon, celebrating its third season, both welcoming nationally recognized artists and authors to the North Fork for intimate, meaningful public experiences.

“At Sound View, winter isn’t a pause, it’s a pulse,” said Director of Guest Culture & Experiences Kara Hoblin, co-creator of Nameless Writers Salon and Director of Uncommon Artist Residency. “This season invites deeper conversation, slower evenings, and the kind of creative intimacy that defines what Sound View truly is, a cultural lighthouse on the North Fork.”

The first Uncommon Artist in Residence is John Roach from January 19 to 26. The Queens-based artist and Parsons faculty member inaugurates the 2026 residency season with a poetic, site-responsive project centered on wind, sound, and climate, drawing from Greenport’s exposed maritime geography, folklore, and working waterfront.

During his residency, Roach will collect field recordings from Long Island Sound, Greenport Harbor, and Hashamomuck Pond, alongside interviews with local residents, to construct an immersive sound work exploring the relationship between wind, memory, myth, and environmental change. If anyone is interested in discussion while he is in residence, reach out to khoblin@soundviewgreenport.com to connect.

Roach has exhibited internationally and completed residencies at Zion National Park, NARS Foundation, Marble House Project, and the Uncommon Arts Residency in Jackson, Wyoming. An artist talk and studio tour will be held on Sunday, January 25, from 5 to 6 PM at The Halyard. RSVP here.

Now entering its third season, Nameless Writers Salon has become a beloved North Fork institution, bringing national literary voices into intimate conversation within Sound View’s Library. The next event will be held on Thursday, January 22, at 6 PM at Sound View. The theme is New Beginnings, and it will be hosted by Isaac Fitzgerald. Featured authors include Tara Westover, Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, Daniel Loedel, and Sanaë Lemoine.

The event is free to attend, with RSVP required.
