Hilary Sheinbaum Shares Favorite Nonalcoholic Recipes & Wines For Dry January

Hilary Sheinbaum, journalist and author of “The Dry Challenge: How to Lose the Booze for Dry January, Sober October, and Any Other Alcohol-Free Month” shares some of her favorite nonalcoholic recipes and wines for a successful (and fun) Dry January.

First, recipes:

Freixenet Alcohol-Removed Sparkling Paloma

Created by Maureen Petrosky, Makes 1 drink

Ingredients

2 oz grapefruit juice

1/2 oz fresh squeezed lime juice

3 Tbsp aquafaba (liquid strained from canned chickpeas)

1 oz simple syrup

2/3 cup Freixenet Alcohol-Removed Sparkling White, chilled

Method

In a cocktail shaker, half-filled with ice, combine the grapefruit juice, lime juice, simple syrup and aquafaba. Shake, shake, shake until frothy. Add the Freixenet Alcohol-Removed Sparkling White to the shaker and stir once. Strain the cocktail into your glass. Using a spoon, take the froth that’s left in the shaker and top off the cocktail.

Damrak 0.0 Virgin Snapper

Ingredients

1.5 oz Damrak Virgin

4.5 oz Bloody Mary mix

1⁄4 oz Lemon juice

Method

Build in a highball glass over cubed ice. Garnish with your best brunch bunch additions (celery, bacon, hot sauce).

Giesen 0% Rosé Compote Spritz

Ingredients

2 oz Giesen 0% Rosé

6 oz Soda water

1 Tbsp Sugar

Seasonal berries or cherries

Method

Muddle strawberries and sugar together in a shaker. Pour Giesen 0% Rosé into the shaker and mix with ice until chilled. Pour into glass & top with soda. Garnish with cherries or berries.

The Free Spirits Company Cozy Season Sour

Ingredients

2.5 oz The Spirit of Bourbon

2 Tbsp Persimmon Purée (peel 1 super ripe Persimmon and mash up with a muddler)

1⁄2 oz Warm Spice syrup*

1⁄2 oz Lemon juice

Cara Cara orange slice

Mint

Method

Add all ingredients to an iced cocktail shaker and shake briefly. Pour out the cocktail into a rocks glass. Garnish with a Cara Cara orange slice and mint

*For Warm Spice Syrup: In a saucepan add 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water and 1 Tbsp pumpkin spice mix. Heat until the sugar has dissolved. Allow to cool before use.
