The Road Forward Scholarship Fund hosts its annual benefit, Celebrate for a Cause, on Friday, June 13, from 5:30 to 9 PM, at LTV Studios. The evening will feature live music from the Lynn Blue Band, along with special guests including Isabel Rose and musical artist Katy Chan, flying in from Chile for her East End debut.
The program supports the dream of higher education for deserving local high school seniors. In just four years, the organization has awarded 49 scholarships for the full duration of the recipient’s college education, based on financial need to help ease the burden.
“Our mission is to support the dreams of these wonderful kids. They have the potential, and we offer the possibility,” said Vivian Shapiro, co-founder of the volunteer non-profit organization. In addition to $18,000 in financial support, each student has a mentor who works with them regularly throughout their college experience to help ensure their success.
The benefit will honor Peter and Max Honerkamp, recognized for their support of the East End community. This year, they have endowed the Road Forward Music Scholarship, which is awarded to a student pursuing a musical education. The event will also honor Alexa Toyas of Hampton Bays High School for her extraordinary program for non-English speaking students.
